State Volleyball Reaction

I shot state volleyball on Saturday in Denver. I had a lot of fun shooting the highs and lows of the two teams I was covering. Especially Savannah Garcia #1 of Valley High School. Having covered her team earlier in the year and knew that she really gets into it. She plays with so much heart, every point is so important. It was sad to see her team lose in the finals. I could have just done a blog on her alone but I threw in a few others from the day.  Enjoy.

  1. Eric, Thanks for the great photography of my daughters Savannah, Meagan and Valley Volleyball. I have purchased some images from the tribune already but some of these were not available, will they be?

I have a design/advertising studio and have been shooting some amateur action shots for my daughters with a Sony Alpha 700 and a SAL70200G ( 70-200mm F2.8 G Lens)
any suggestions on what setting might work best? ISO, filter, etc, etc?
Now shooting basketball (indoors) Appreciate your feedback.

Again thanks for the great shots! your action shots and blk and white portraits are beautiful.
    Sincerely,
    Ken Garcia

    • Mr. Garcia,
Sorry for the delayed reply, things got a bit crazy over the holidays. I can put the photos in that gallery on the Trib web site. Would you prefer the black and white or color?

As far as shooting is concerned, I am not very familiar with the Sony DSLRs, but I usually shoot at around ISO 2500, 500th/sec @ f2.8. That of course depends on how bright the gym is and frankly, the worst gym in Weld County is Valley’s. Its both dark and the lights are a hideous shade of yellow. I usually will set up strobes when shooting there. I hope that helps. If you see me shooting feel free to say hi and I can explain it further.

      Cheers,
      Eric

  2. What a great blog! Thank you for taking the time to see in Savannah what her coach saw in her this season.

  3. Eric, when you have time can you send me your contact info, and personal email.

    Thanks,
    Ken Garcia
